Abstract

his research is motivated by the low student learning outcomes in elementary
school mathematics in various parts of Indonesia. This is indicated by the number of
students who have not reached the KKM that has been determined. The problem of
low learning outcomes in mathematics is caused by students who have difficulty
understanding concepts, the learning methods used by teachers are not suitable, they
do not use learning media so that students' interest in learning mathematics is low
due to saturation that occurs during the learning process. One solution to overcome
the problems above is to apply the use of abacus learning media, because the abacus
media is one of the simple media and involves students directly and increases the
activity of students to try. This study aims to find out the description of the use of the
abacus media on students' mathematics learning outcomes in elementary schools.
The research method used is a systematic review or Systematic Literature Review
(SLR) by analyzing the results of previous studies related to the use of the abacus
media on the results of learning mathematics in elementary schools. The sample
analysis in this study was 7 journal articles that had been published in the 2013-2022
range, which were reviewed from various aspects, namely: (1) based on the journal
area, (2) based on the year the journal was published, (3) the research methodology
used was 5 Classroom Action Research (PTK) journal articles, 1 experimental
journal article and 1 literature review journal article, (4) an overview of the
application of abacus media in both low and high classes.
Based on the findings of the analysis, there are differences in the results of using
the abacus media, but overall this study shows the conclusion that the abacus media
is suitable for use in the learning process, has a positive influence and can improve
learning outcomes in elementary school students' mathematics learning subjects.
