Abstract
The increasing cases of unhealthy relationships among adolescents, this study aims to determine the effect of the intensity of social media use and interpersonal communication on toxic relationships in late adolescents, especially students at the Islamic University "45" Bekasi (UNISMA). This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The subjects were 190 late adolescents aged 18–21 years, with a snowball sampling technique. The scale of intensity of social media use has a reliability value of 0.976, the scale of interpersonal communication has a reliability value of 0.926, and the scale of toxic relationships has a reliability value of 0.969. Data collection techniques are interviews and psychological scales. The results of the correlation test of the intensity of social media use with toxic relationships (r = 0.536, p = 0.000), there is an influence between interpersonal communication and toxic relationships (r = -0.658, p = 0.000). The results of the analysis of the intensity of social media use contribute 29.2% with a positive influence (β = 0.670), while interpersonal communication is 46.8% with a negative influence (β = -1.481).
