Abstract
The background of this study is rooted in the problematic learning of Islamic Cultural History (SKI), which often remains trapped in mechanical and superficial rote learning patterns. This condition causes historical material to fail in transforming into a functional moral guide for students amidst the wave of digital disruption. The objectives of this study include examining cognitive structure-based instructional designs, observing the learning process in shaping cognitive assimilation and anchoring, and mapping out the supporting aspects and obstacles faced by educators when implementing David Ausubel’s meaningful learning concept to instill historical Islamic values at Madrasah Aliyah Al Falah Klender.
The method applied was descriptive qualitative in the form of a case study. Data collection was carried out through passive participatory observation, in-depth interviews with key informants—namely the madrasah principal, SKI teachers, and students—as well as document reviews covering Teaching Modules (Modul Ajar), Learning Objectives Flow (ATP), and institutional archives. Data processing was conducted iteratively through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, which were then validated using triangulation techniques.
The findings of this study indicate that SKI lesson planning is reconstructed through Teaching Modules and ATP based on prior knowledge using advance organizers. Its implementation applies David Ausubel's cognitive assimilation theory by connecting new material with established concepts through visual-digital media and interactive dialogue to achieve three phases of value internalization. The supporting factors include the madrasah principal's backing and student enthusiasm, while the main obstacles are curricular time constraints and varying levels of teacher digital literacy. Implicitly, the integration of meaningful learning successfully transforms SKI from passive memorization into a moral compass and a genuine religious identity for students.
