Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Work Discipline on Employee Performance, both directly and indirectly through Job Satisfaction as an intervening variable among employees of the Environmental Services Department (Dinas Lingkungan Hidup), UPTD Jalur Kontainer, Bekasi City. The phenomenon indicates a gap in operational field cleaning service performance, which is strongly suspected to stem from weakened work discipline and the suboptimal fulfillment of employee job satisfaction. The sample consisted of 65 respondents, determined using a saturated sampling technique in which all members of the population were included as research respondents. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and questionnaires.
This study employed a quantitative method with an associative approach. The data consisted of primary and secondary data. Data analysis was conducted using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) based on Partial Least Squares (PLS) with SmartPLS version 4.1.1.8. The results showed that work discipline had a positive and significant effect on employee performance, with an original sample of 0.334 (t-statistic = 2.483; p-value = 0.013). Job satisfaction did not have a significant effect on employee performance, with an original sample of 0.255 (t-statistic = 1.862; p-value = 0.063). Work discipline had a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction, with an original sample of 0.609 (t-statistic = 8.255; p-value = 0.000). Furthermore, work discipline did not have a significant indirect effect on employee performance through job satisfaction as a mediating variable, with an original sample of 0.155 (t-statistic = 1.839; p-value = 0.066). At the structural level, the coefficient of determination (R²) indicated that work discipline explained 37.0% of the variance in job satisfaction, categorized as moderate, while employee performance was simultaneously explained by work discipline and job satisfaction by 27.9%, categorized as weak.
