THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE JOYFUL LEARNING METHOD IN ENHANCING STUDENTS’ LEARNING MOTIVATION IN ISLAMIC RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AT SMK TELEKOMUNIKASI TELESANDI BEKASI

Education is essentially a process of humanizing individuals through learning experiences that not only develop knowledge but also nurture awareness, motivation, character, and the ability of learners to lead meaningful lives. In response to changing times and the characteristics of contemporary learners, education is expected to provide active, interactive, enjoyable learning experiences that allow students to engage fully in the learning process. In the context of Islamic Religious Education (IRE), learning should not merely enable students to acquire knowledge of Islamic teachings but should also foster love, awareness, and the willingness to understand, internalize, and practice these teachings in everyday life. Nevertheless, Islamic Religious Education continues to face challenges arising from the dominance of conventional approaches, which may limit interaction, participation, curiosity, and students’ learning motivation. At the vocational high school level, these challenges become increasingly complex because some students tend to focus more on vocational subjects that are perceived as directly related to their future careers. A similar phenomenon was found at SMK Telekomunikasi Telesandi Bekasi, where some students participated in Islamic Religious Education learning primarily because of academic requirements rather than intrinsic motivation to understand and practice Islamic teachings. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Joyful Learning method in enhancing students’ learning motivation in Islamic Religious Education. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study method through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. The findings indicate that Joyful Learning is capable of transforming the learning atmosphere into a more active, communicative, collaborative, and enjoyable environment while increasing students’ enthusiasm, confidence, participation, curiosity, and engagement. Motivation, which was initially dominated by external demands, gradually developed into intrinsic awareness and interest. Thus, Joyful Learning makes Islamic Religious Education more humanistic, meaningful, and relevant to students’ lives while supporting the development of knowledge, character, and the internalization of Islamic values.
