Abstract
English has different vowel sounds than Indonesian. English has a variety of vowels, including long vowel sounds with short phonetic vowels such as /æ/, /ɪ/, /ʌ/, /ɛ/, /ɒ/, and long vowels in English using a colon, such as /i:/. This study focuses on analyzing the phonological variations of English vowels in English language learning among elementary school students. The aim of this study is to identify the pronunciation of long and short vowel sounds in English to determine the sounds produced, as well as the difficulties faced by students in pronouncing these vowels, and to identify the difficulties experienced by students when learning English in the classroom. The method used is qualitative descriptive analysis with data collection including oral tests and interviews with students through voice recording and documentation. After the data is collected, it is analyzed by carefully listening to the students' recordings and analyzed using phonetic transcription in tabular form. The results of the study indicate that some students produce varying sounds, such as in the words /lɑw/, /sɑw/, /bɑl/, /wɔrk/, /tʌrn/, /bɪrd/, /kʌp/, because they follow the patterns of their native language or other languages, resulting in different meanings of the words in English.
