Abstract

The phenomenon of deflection is widely used in the construction of cranes or vehicle suspensions such as leaf springs in cars. The test of this tool serves to determine the maximum and minimum values, as well as to determine the difference in deflection between the experiment and the theory. In testing this tool using ST37 steel material with a length of 1 meter, testing wa carriedout in a horizontal position of the steel and then given 4 load variations, namely: 1 kg, 0.75 kg, 0.5 kg, and 0.25 kg at 3 points of steel length 50 cm, 37.5 cm, and 25 cm from point A to point B. Then the experimental results obtained maximum deflection of half (50 cm) the length of steel with a load of 1 kg, namely; 1.89 mm, while the minimum deflection results in a quarter (25 cm) of steel length with a load of 0.25 kg, namely; 0.06 mm. The value of the difference in deflection that occurs between experimental and theoretical test results is obtained at half (50 cm), one third (37.5 cm), and one quarter (25 cm) of steel length, with load variations of 1 kg, 0.75 kg, 0.5 kg, and 0.25 kg. At half (50 cm) the length of the steel is; 1 kg = 0.11 mm, 0.75 kg = 0.01 mm, 0.5 kg = 0.15 mm and 0.25 kg = 0.06 mm. Then at one third (37.5 cm) the length of the steel is; 1 kg = 0.31 mm, 0.75 kg = 0.2 mm, 0.5 kg = 0.36 mm and 0.25 kg = 0.32 mm. And at quarter (25 cm) the length of the steel is; 1 kg = 0.1 mm, 0.75 kg = 0.19 mm, 0.5 kg = 0.04 mm and 0.25 kg = 0.22 mm.
