Abstract
This study is motivated by the lack of use of Big Book media, especially in
students' beginning reading material, thus affecting students' learning activities.
This is based on the results of observations and interviews that Big Book media has
never been used at SDN Jatisampurna III Bekasi City for learning activities, so this
makes researchers interested in using Big Book media in students' beginning
reading skills.
This study aims to determine the difference between Big Book Media and
the Beginning Reading Ability of Grade 2 Students of SDN Jatisampurna III Bekasi
City. The method used in this research is the experimental method. This study used
experimental class I and experimental class II where experimental class I was
treated using Big Book media and experimental class II using packet books. The
analysis techniques used in this study were Instrument Test, Normality Test,
Homogeneity Test, Hypothesis Test, and N-Gain Analysis using the help of data
processing applications, namely IBM Statistic SPSS version 29.0.
The results of this study are as follows: 1) The initial reading ability of grade
2B students of SDN Jatisampurna III Bekasi City using Big Book media in
experimental class I with an average of 86.98. Where the average result before
treatment was 59.84. So that there was an increase in the average result of 27.14.
2) The beginning reading ability of grade 2A students of SDN Jatisampurna III
Bekasi City using packet books in experimental class II with an average of 64.08.
Where the average before learning was 57.60. So that there was an increase with
an average of 6.48. 3) There is a significant difference in Big Book media on
students' beginning reading ability with a significance value (sig) (2-tailed) of ˂
0.001.
