Abstract

The film, Sayap Sayap Patah, was adapted from a true incident of a bloody incident
at the Mobile Brigade Command Headquarters which was adapted into an action
and drama themed film. This film illustrates that violence does not only occur in the
form of physical action (non-verbal) but implicitly (verbal), and this often occurs
in everyday life. Film is a medium for conveying meaningful communication and is
arranged in every scene.The purpose of this study is to find out violence is
represented in the film Sayap Sayap Patah. The method in this research uses a
qualitative approach with Roland Barthes' Semiotics analysis, namely denotation,
connotation and myth. The results of this film research are verbal violence in the
form of insulting or ridiculing sentences such as yelling with the word "shroud",
coercion with heretical doctrines and threats with the words "hurry up and tell me
or I will shoot you in the head." Whereas non-verbal violence took the form of
killings using plastic bags, shootings between police and terrorists, beatings of
police officers by convicts, damaging the Brimob Command Headquarters
facilities, beating women, slapping, threatening someone and killing using glass
splinters. Suggestions for further research are to use Pierce Bourdieu's thinking so
that the power relations that occur in a broadcast can be identified.
