Abstract
Transportation is a very important and most needed aspect in the current
mobility process. Modal selection plays an important role in determining
transportation policy issues in relation to the types of modes and infrastructure
available. In choosing the mode of transportation it also depends on the
prospective passengers because they have the right as consumers to choose
because this is influenced by the characteristicts of the prospective passengers.
Babelankota village is the third most populous village wich has the
potensial to cause population mobility, especially shuttle workers. This is the
background in this research in choosing a mode of transportation. The purpose of
this study is to explain the characteristicts and choice of mode of transportation by
shuttle workers based on education level, age, distance from home to place of
residence and income in Babelankota village and to find out the perceptions of
shuttle workers in using this mode of transportation. The method used in this
study was descriptive quantitative with a survey approach in which the researcher
distributed questionnaires directly (door to door) to 99 respondents whose results
were in the form of tables and diagrams and were analyzed using multiple linier
regression with the variables analyzed namely education, age, distance travel and
income.
The results of the analysis show that the majority of shuttle worker use
private transportation to get to work by 93% where workers have characteristicts
> 31 years of age by 41%, with high school/vocasional high school graduates of
64% carry out the mobility process with a distance of > 15 km as much as 54%,
and has an average income of Rp. 4.000.001 – Rp. 5.000.000 as much as 31%.
Where workers based on education, age, mileage and income prefer private
vehicles to go to work for reasons such as arriving faster, maintaining driving
privacy more easily, and being able to easily determine there own travel routes.
The regression equation for private vehicles Y = 0,307 + 0,226 X1 + 0,217 X2 +
0,258 X3 + 0,249 X4 and the regression equation for public vehicles Y = 0,188 +
0,320 X1 + 0,410 X2 + 0,272 X3 – 0,075 X4.
