Abstract
Islamic character education in developing students’ tolerance attitudes in schools continues to face challenges related to differences in students’ character, peer and social environments, family habits, and the use of digital media. Islamic character education plays an important role in developing students’ understanding and behavior so that they are able to appreciate differences, respect others, cooperate, and maintain harmonious social relationships. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Islamic character education in developing students’ tolerance attitudes at SDN Aren Jaya 1 Bekasi, identify the forms of tolerance demonstrated by students, and examine the supporting and inhibiting factors in the development process. This study employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that Islamic character education is implemented through Islamic Religious Education learning, teacher role modeling, religious habituation, guidance and advice, collaborative activities, and social interaction among students. Tolerance attitudes are demonstrated through respecting peers, accepting differences, using respectful language, helping others, cooperating, and respecting students of different religious backgrounds. Supporting factors include a conducive school environment, support from the principal and teachers, family involvement, habituation practices, and religious activities. Inhibiting factors include differences in students’ character, social and peer environments, differences in family habits, and the influence of digital media. This study concludes that Islamic character education contributes to the development of students’ tolerance attitudes through learning, role modeling, habituation, and continuous social experiences.
