This study addressed differences in students’ emotional abilities and their varied experiences of school and family parenting practices. It aimed to examine the statistical relationships of students’ perceptions of the school environment and parenting styles with emotional intelligence among public senior high school students in Babelan District, Bekasi Regency, both partially and simultaneously. A quantitative correlational approach was employed.
The population comprised 991 eleventh-grade students from three public senior high schools. A sample of 285 students was determined using the Slovin formula with a 5% margin of error and selected through proportionate simple random sampling. Data were collected through closed-ended Likert questionnaires and analyzed using Pearson correlation, multiple correlation, and linear regression in SPSS.
Results showed that the school environment was positively and significantly related to emotional intelligence, with r = 0.702 and a contribution of 49.3%. Parenting styles were also positively and significantly related to emotional intelligence, with r = 0.511 and a contribution of 26.1%.
Simultaneously, both variables produced a multiple correlation of 0.837, F = 330.404, significance below 0.001, and a contribution of 70.1%. These findings indicate that positive school experiences and supportive parenting are associated with students’ self-awareness, emotional regulation, motivation, empathy, and healthy social relationships.
