Abstract
The rapid development of social media and digital technology is not necessarily accompanied by an improvement in students' religious attitudes. Therefore, the relationships among social media, digital literacy, and students' religious attitudes still require empirical verification.
This study aims to examine the effect of social media on students' religious attitudes, the effect of digital literacy on students' religious attitudes, and the effect of social media on digital literacy among students of private Islamic senior high schools (Madrasah Aliyah Swasta) in Duren Sawit District. This study employed a quantitative approach using a survey method by distributing questionnaires to 173 respondents selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, validity testing, reliability testing, normality testing, linearity testing, and simple linear regression analysis with the assistance of IBM SPSS software.
The findings indicate that (1) social media has no significant effect on students' religious attitudes (Sig. = 0.736 > 0.05, t = 0.338 < 1.65381, R = 0.026, R² = 0.001 (0.1%), with the regression equation Y = 137.037 + 0.024X₁); (2) digital literacy has no significant effect on students' religious attitudes (Sig. = 0.935 > 0.05, t = 0.082 < 1.65381, R = 0.006, R² = 0.000 (0%), with the regression equation Y = 139.858 + 0.006X₂); and (3) social media has no significant effect on digital literacy (Sig. = 0.415 > 0.05, t = −0.817 < 1.65381, R = −0.062, R² = 0.004 (0.4%), with the regression equation Y = 142.701 − 0.060X₁. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that increased use of social media and higher levels of digital literacy have not been able to directly enhance students' religious attitudes. This finding rejects the hypothesis stating that social media and digital literacy have an influence on students' religious attitudes. This study contributes empirical evidence that strengthening students' religious attitudes cannot be achieved solely through the use of social media and the improvement of digital literacy. Instead, it also requires support from other factors, such as religious guidance, the family environment, school culture, and teachers' role modeling.
