Abstract

This study aims to describe the social communication of street buskers in Kampung Sopel, Bekasi City, using George Herbert Mead's Symbolic Interactionism perspective. A qualitative approach with Alfred Schutz's phenomenological method was employed to understand the experiences and meanings constructed by street buskers in their daily lives. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving informants selected through purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings indicate that the social communication of street buskers is formed through symbolic interactions involving language, actions, and social experiences that shape the meaning of their profession. The concept of mind explains busking as a means of fulfilling daily needs, self describes the formation of identity through interaction with society, and society illustrates the processes of adaptation, acceptance, and rejection that influence their communication patterns. This study concludes that busking is not merely an economic activity but also a process of constructing meaning, identity, and social relationships through symbolic interaction in everyday life.
