THE ROLE OF ISLAMIC RELIGIOUS EDUCATION TEACHERS IN IMPROVING DISCIPLINE AND POLITE LANGUAGE BEHAVIOR IN STUDENTS AT SMK YADIKA 8 JATIMULYA

Students' polite language behavior is an important aspect of character and moral development within the school environment. However, in practice, there are still students who use impolite language when interacting with both teachers and peers. This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in improving students' discipline in using polite language at SMK Yadika 8 Jatimulya. Specifically, it examines the roles performed by PAI teachers, the strategies implemented to foster polite language behavior, and the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting their implementation.
This study employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive research method. The research data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation. The research participants consisted of the principal, vice principal, Islamic Religious Education teachers, and students. The data were analyzed using the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.
The findings indicate that Islamic Religious Education teachers play significant roles as educators, role models, mentors, motivators, and supervisors in promoting students' polite language behavior. The strategies employed include providing exemplary conduct, habituating students to use polite language, giving advice, integrating moral values into Islamic Religious Education lessons, monitoring students' behavior, providing educational reprimands, implementing the 5S school culture (Smile, Greet, Salute, Politeness, and Courtesy), and collaborating with the school administration and parents. Supporting factors include strong support from the school, collaboration among teachers and parents, and a conducive school environment. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors include the influence of peer associations and social media.
The study concludes that the role of Islamic Religious Education teachers makes a positive contribution to fostering students' discipline in using polite language. This research contributes to the development of character education based on Islamic values by strengthening the role of teachers as exemplary figures in cultivating a culture of respectful and courteous communication within the school environment.
