Abstract
Salma Fadhilah Kurnia, NPM 41182911220035, Permissive Parenting Styles in Mitigating the Negative Impacts of Gadget Addiction Among Generation Alpha Children: An Islamic Educational Perspective, Islamic Religious Education Study Program, Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universitas Muhammadiyah Indonesia-Bekasi. 1448 H/2026 M.
This study aims to identify the forms and characteristics of permissive parenting among parents of Generation Alpha children in their use of gadgets in the digital era, analyze its impact on gadget addiction, and describe the perspective of Islamic education in reducing the negative effects of gadget use among children raised under permissive parenting.
This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving parents who have Generation Alpha children in the RT 008/RW 022 area. Data analysis consisted of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions.
The results indicate that permissive parenting is characterized by granting children significant freedom to use gadgets without consistent rules, supervision, or guidance. This situation leads to increased gadget usage intensity, resulting in addiction symptoms such as difficulty controlling usage time, a preference for gadgets over family interaction, irritability when usage is restricted, and the neglect of study, religious observance, and social interaction. The resulting impacts span cognitive, social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and moral dimensions. From an Islamic educational perspective, efforts to mitigate the negative effects of gadget addiction involve applying the values of tauhid (monotheism), modeling, compassion, habituation to worship, offering counsel, and maintaining proportionate supervision in parenting.
Based on the research results, it can be concluded that permissive parenting patterns that are not balanced with supervision and guidance contribute to the increasing risk of gadget addiction in Generation Alpha children. Therefore, adopting a parenting style grounded in Islamic educational values serves as an effective strategy for shaping children into disciplined, responsible individuals of noble character who are capable of using technology wisely in accordance with Islamic teachings.
