Abstract
Bintan Azkia Hendriawati, NPM 41182911220030, The Problem-Based Learning Model in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) to Enhance Students' Critical Thinking at SMPIT Taruma Insani, Islamic Religious Education Study Program, Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universitas Muhammadiyah Indonesia –Bekasi. 2026M/1448 H.This study aims to explain how the Problem-Based Learning PBL method is implemented in Islamic Religious Education PAI classes, how students develop critical thinking skills, and how teachers utilize PBL to enhance these skills at SMPIT Taruma Insani. A qualitative, descriptive research approach was employed. The subjects of the study were the students and teachers at SMPIT Taruma Insani. Data collection was conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis involved the stages of reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through the triangulation of techniques and sources.The research findings indicate that the PBL method has been applied in PAI instruction through stages such as thepresentation of contextual problems, group discussions, inquiry, presentation of results, and reflection and evaluation. Through this method, students were able to enhance their critical thinking skills. This improvement was demonstrated by their ability to analyze problems, express opinions based on evidence and religious texts, evaluate various alternative solutions, and draw rational conclusions.To foster critical thinking skills, teachers presented problems relevant to the students, encouraged discussion and group collaboration, facilitated the analysis and problem-solving process, and conducted reflection and evaluation at the end of each class. Consequently, the Problem-Based Learning method proved effective in enhancing thecriticalthinking skillsof SMPITTarumaInsani students in amoreactive and effective manner.Keywords:Problem-Based Learning,Islamic Religious Education, Critical Thinking, Learning Strategy, SMPIT Taruma Insani.
