Abstract
This study was motivated by the phenomenon of declining student etiquette toward teachers, which has become one of the challenges in Islamic education in the modern era. This decline is reflected in a decrease in respect for teachers, the use of impolite language, low compliance with teachers’ instructions, and a weakening of ethics in interactions and the learning process. In fact, from the perspective of Islamic education, students’ manners toward teachers constitute an important foundation that encompasses respect, reverence, humility, maintaining proper communication etiquette, and obeying teachers in matters of virtue all of which are integral to character development and the successful pursuit of knowledge. Given these conditions, this study aims to identify the concept of student etiquette toward teachers in the book Nurul Hidayah by K.H. Noer Ali, analyze the relevance of these values to contemporary educational practices, and conduct a comparative analysis with other Islamic educational texts.
This study employs a qualitative approach using library research. The primary data source is the book Nurul Hidayah by K.H. Noer Ali, while secondary data sources include relevant books, scientific journals, articles, and previous studies. Data collection techniques include literature review, theme identification, data classification, and textual analysis. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman content analysis model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions.
The results of the study indicate that the concept of student etiquette toward teachers in the book Nurul Hidayah by K.H. Noer Ali positions respect for teachers as the primary foundation for success in pursuing knowledge. The forms of etiquette emphasized include an attitude of ta’dzim (reverence) toward teachers, tawadhu’ (humility), guarding one’s speech and behavior, istiqamah (consistency) in learning, patience, commitment to teachers, and preserving the blessings of knowledge through good relationships with educators. The analysis also indicates that these values remain relevant for application in contemporary education as a means of strengthening character, fostering a culture of learning, and improving the educational relationship between teachers and students. Comparatively, the concept of adab in the Nurul Hidayah by K.H. Noer Ali text shares similarities with the thought of classical scholars but possesses a distinctiveness due to its greater contextual relevance to Islamic education in Indonesia.
