Abstract

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are negative childhood events that may have long-term impacts on mental health, including depressive tendencies. University students are particularly vulnerable to psychological problems due to academic and social demands. This study aimed to examine the relationship between adverse childhood experiences and depressive tendencies among university students. This study employed a quantitative correlational design involving 348 students selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a modified Adverse Childhood Experiences International Questionnaire (ACE-IQ) and the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II). Reliability testing using Cronbach’s Alpha yielded coefficients of 0.918 for the ACE scale and 0.800 for the depressive tendency scale. Data were analyzed using Spearman’s rho correlation and simple linear regression. The results indicated a positive and significant relationship between adverse childhood experiences and depressive tendencies (r = 0.273, p < 0.001). Therefore, the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected, indicating that higher ACEs were associated with higher depressive tendencies among students.
