Abstract
University students face various challenges in their lives, and some respond
to these difficulties by engaging in self-harm. Difficulties in emotion regulation and
experiences of loneliness are considered factors influencing this behavior. This
study aimed to examine the effect of emotion regulation and loneliness on self-harm
behavior among university students. The participants were 100 students from
Universitas Islam 45. This research employed a quantitative correlational design.
Data were collected using quota sampling and snowball sampling techniques
through questionnaires. The research instruments demonstrated high reliability:
the Emotion Regulation Scale (α = 0.953), the Loneliness Scale (α = 0.893), and
the Self-Harm Scale (α = 0.924). Data were analyzed using SPSS version 26.0.
The results indicated that emotion regulation and loneliness had a significant effect
on self-harm behavior (R² = 0.327; R = 0.572; F = 32.535; p < 0.045).
