Abstract

The kenduri tradition is a cultural heritage of Javanese society that holds spiritual, social, and cultural values. The continuity of this tradition faces challenges amid modernization and technological advancement, particularly in Sempu Kidul Village, Semin District, Gunung Kidul Regency. This study aims to: (1) understand the meaning of the kenduri tradition; (2) examine the changes that have occurred within the tradition; and (3) identify the factors that influence these changes. A descriptive qualitative methodology was employed, with data collected through observation and interviews. Informants included community leaders, religious figures, and residents of various age groups.
The findings reveal that: (1) the kenduri tradition holds multiple meanings encompassing religious, social, and cultural dimensions; (2) changes in the tradition include decreased participation from the younger generation and a shift toward more practical forms of implementation; and (3) these changes are influenced by both internal and external factors.
