Abstract

Return on Assets (ROA) is a key indicator for measuring a bank's financial performance. Two
financial ratios suspected to influence ROA are the Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR) and Net Interest
Margin (NIM). This study aims to examine the effect of LDR and NIM on ROA in banking companies
in Indonesia. This research employs a quantitative approach using secondary data from annual
reports and sustainability reports covering the 2022–2024 period. The study population consists of 47
banking companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), with 26 companies selected as
samples using purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted through documentation studies,
and data analysis was carried out using multiple linear regression with SPSS version 21. The
simultaneous test (F-test) indicates that LDR and NIM together have a significant effect on ROA
(significance level = 0.000). However, the partial test (t-test) reveals that only NIM has a significant
positive effect on ROA, while LDR does not have a significant effect. The Adjusted R Square value of
0.190 suggests that LDR and NIM together explain 19% of the variation in ROA, with the remaining
81% influenced by other factors outside the model. NIM is a significant determinant of banking
profitability, while LDR does not significantly affect ROA. These findings imply that bank
management should focus on optimizing interest margins to enhance overall profitability.
