Abstract

Migrant workers often face challenges in adapting to new cultures that differ from their own. Culture shock is a psychological phenomenon that arises from discomfort or confusion when encountering significant cultural differences. This study employs a qualitative approach to understand the experiences of Indonesian migrant workers in Saudi Arabia in dealing with culture shock and its impact on their social adaptation. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews with Indonesian migrant workers in Saudi Arabia, and the gathered data were analyzed using qualitative analysis techniques. The findings reveal that the greatest challenges occur during the initial period of migration due to language and cultural differences. However, workers were able to adapt by learning the language, building social relationships, and understanding local culture. Upon returning, they often experienced reverse culture shock and required support to readjust to their home culture. This study is expected to serve as a guide for the government and migrant workers in effectively addressing culture shock, both during overseas employment and upon return
