Abstract

ABSTRACT
This study aims to analyze the effect of drilling machine rotation speed and the type
of coolant used on the level of wear on drill bits using medium carbon steel type
S45C. This study uses an experimental approach with the aim of determining the
differences in the level of drill bit wear that occurs during the drilling process,
based on direct experiments carried out with certain treatments. The variations in
rotation speed tested were 540 RPM, 800 RPM, and 1200 RPM, while the types of
coolants used included Dromus, Cutting oils, and cooking oil. Data analysis was
carried out using a comparative descriptive method. The results showed that the
higher the friction between the drill bit and the workpiece, and the lower the
lubrication properties applied, the greater the level of wear that occurs. Based on
the test results, at a speed of 1200 RPM with cooking oil coolant, the highest level
of wear was recorded on S45C Steel, with an average wear of 0.058 mm, when
compared to other speed and coolant variations.
