Abstract

A broken home family can be said to have a background of disharmony which is
usually caused by a lack of intense communication which can affect the relationship
between one family member and another. In this case, interpersonal communication
has an important role in every family communication, especially between parents
and children. Integrity in a family will have an impact on children's development
through bad experiences in their family environment until they reach adolescence.
When they reach adolescence, their self-concept begins to form due to the
experiences they experience during their growth and development at home so that
they can have changes in character, attitudes, behavior and actions that tend to be
negative. Therefore, the aim of this research is to determine interpersonal
communication in the formation of self-concept in broken home adolescents The
method used in this research is qualitative with a phenomonological approach to
five broken home teenagers with different criteria. The results of the research show
that teenagers who come from broken homes tend to have a negative self-concept
which leads to changes in character, behavior and habits including. However, with
encouragement from positive activities and the people closest to them, broken Home
teenagers have a sense of caring that is fulfilled even though they come from a
broken home family background.
