Abstract

The main problem with mathematics learning in elementary schools is the low
understanding of concepts in mathematics lessons. In mathematics learning activities,
students' memory is still low so students easily forget what they have learned, students'
lack of ability to restate the meaning of equivalent fractions in fraction material, students
cannot give examples of fractions and non-fraction examples, then when students are
asked To solve a word problem, students feel confused about solving the problem
correctly, and students are not able to understand fraction material so it is difficult to
determine and calculate using fraction arithmetic operations. One alternative to improve
students' understanding of mathematical concepts is by using the Auditory, Intellectually,
Repetition (AIR) learning model. The aim of this research is to improve understanding of
mathematical concepts for fifth grade students at SD Negeri Bahagia 01.
This research uses the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method which is
carried out in 2 cycles, each cycle consisting of four stages, namely planning,
implementation, observation and reflection. Data collection techniques use tests,
observation, interviews and documents. This research's data analysis technique uses an
interactive analysis technique which consists of three components, namely data grouping,
data presentation, and drawing conclusions.
The results of classical completion in cycle I were 58.6% with an average student
score of 71.6, this means that it is still less than the success indicator that has been
determined at 80% for understanding mathematical concepts. And in cycle II there was
an increase with a classical completion percentage of 86.2% with an average student
score of 89. The Minimum Completion Criteria (MCC) set was 70, in this study students
were said to be "Completed" in learning if they achieved a score ≥ 70 Based on the
research results, it can be concluded that the Auditory, Intellectually, Repetition (AIR)
learning model can increase the ability to understand mathematics concepts of fifth grade
students at SD Negeri Bahagia 01 Bekasi Regency by 27.6%.
