Abstract

Reciprocating engines, also known as Internal Combustion Engines (ICE), have
become a primary pillar in the ground transportation system, playing a crucial role
in meeting diverse needs. While conventional combustion engines still dominate,
recent challenges related to the depletion of oil reserves (BBM) indicate the urgent
need to develop alternative fuels that are economical, environmentally friendly, and
have high octane values. The automotive industry is advancing technologically
through the utilization of alternative fuels, where ethanol emerges as one of the
potential options. Ethanol provides advantages with its high RON level, enhancing
combustion efficiency, and having oxygen content that supports optimal
combustion. However, despite ethanol's significant potential as an alternative fuel,
its implementation is still limited to the research and experimentation stage. This
study aims to investigate the impact of adding ethanol to RON 95 fuel in a 125 CC
gasoline engine. Based on the results of engine performance testing using RON 95
fuel with a mixture of 10%, 15% and 20% ethanol, it was found that the most
optimal torque and power values were the mixture of R95 80% + E 20%.
