Abstract

A solar water heater (SWH) is a device used to heat water by utilizing solar energy. This type of water heater greatly saves cost, performance and energy. Meanwhile, heating that uses electricity or gas requires a monthly fee. This study aims to determine how much influence the thermal insulation has on the efficiency of the solar water heater collector. The method used is a direct test of the water heater collector with thermal insulation made of glasswool, rockwool, and ceramicwool by recording changes in the water temperature of the inlet and outlet pipes on the water heater collector with thermal insulation. The data obtained from the test results are then calculated by comparing the useful power of the collector with the power of incoming solar radiation. The results showed that the efficiency values of thermal insulation with glasswool, rockwool, and ceramicwool materials were 35%, 46%, and 57% respectively. Changes in the thermal insulation material have a significant effect on increasing the efficiency of the water heater collector. Where the change in thermal insulation material from glasswool to rockwool there is an increase in efficiency of 31.43%, from rockwool to ceramicwool an increase in efficiency of 23.91%, and from glasswool to ceramicwool an increase in efficiency of 62.86%,
