Abstract

The problem faced by PT Nidec Sankyo Precion Indonesia is in the uncontrolled production process
due to a significant increase in the amount of production resulting in relatively high production defects
that cause production costs to increase and are not competitive. This study aims to find the root of
quality problems that occur in the process of turning Piston Booster products using the DMAIC method
(define, measure, analyze, improve, control) which is used to reduce the number of defects in Piston
Booster products. From the define stage, it is used to identify the problem that occurs. The measure
stage is carried out to measure the level of defects in a production. The analyze stage is to determine
the cause of problems in the production process using fishbone diagrams. The improve stage is used to
improve the process and eliminate the causes of defects based on the analyze stage. The last stage is
control to control performance and ensure the cause of the defect does not reappear. From the
calculation results, the DPMO (defect per million opportunity) value is 12,158, with a sigma level of
3.75 which indicates a low sigma level and there are 5 types of defects the highest, namely blackspot
(62.6%), bubble (18.1%), and shortmold (7.5%), NG dimensions (6.5), and dented (5.4). The most
potential damage factors are human factors, method factors, material factors, and machine factors.
