Abstract

Bipolar disorder, often called manic-depressive disorder, is a mood disorder
characterized by extreme and euphoric mood fluctuations to major depression,
and is mediated by periods of normal mood. Every day we must interact with
other people. This also happens to people with bipolar. When sufferers interact
with their social environment, traits and behaviors that are considered strange
make it difficult for them to understand friends and their social environment. The
purpose of this study was to find out how the communication pattern of bipolar
behavior in its social reality. This research method is descriptive qualitative by
taking in-depth interviews and documentation. Based on the results of the study,
the pattern of communication carried out from the results of interviews with
bipolar sufferers to the two key informants illustrates that there is a difference in
terms of communication, for informant 1 with the initials (FP) the pattern of
communication carried out tends to be primary and linear communication
patterns. This requires partners when communicating, meaning they prefer to
communicate face to face with their interlocutors. The informant 2 with the
initials (AR) is more inclined to secondary communication patterns because in
social reality this communication pattern is more effectively applied to bipolar
sufferers (AR). For future researchers, it is hoped that this can complete the
discussion regarding communication patterns of bipolar behavior related to selfdisclosure in bipolar behavior with the social environment.
