Abstract
Many new autonomous regions (DOB) of regencies/cities formed in Indonesia have not been
able to achieve good performance in governance. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct evaluation
research on the implementation of local government. This paper wants to explain how the new
autonomous regions in Indonesia are able to achieve good governance performance. The research was
conducted using qualitative methods that emphasize secondary data sources from reports on local
government administration. By taking the case of Pangandaran Regency, the results of the study
show that well-managed new autonomous regions are able to achieve good performance.
Pangandaran Regency as a new autonomous region in West Java Province has proven that a good
commitment from the local government supported by community participation is able to achieve very
high achievements in the administration of local government. Thus, the main factor for achieving
success in governance in new autonomous regions is a strong commitment from local governments
supported by high community participation.
