Abstract
The air filter is one of the key components of the air intake system that plays an
essential role in maintaining combustion quality and influencing engine performance.
Differences in the characteristics of wet paper, foam, and stainless steel air filters are
expected to produce variations in airflow entering the combustion chamber, thereby
affecting engine power, torque, and Air Fuel Ratio (AFR). This study aimed to analyze
the effect of these three types of air filters on the performance of a motorcycle y 115
motorcycle engine and to determine which filter provides the best performance under
standard engine conditions. The research employed a quantitative experimental
method using a one-factor repeated measures design. Data were collected using a
chassis dynamometer to measure engine power and torque, while an AFR meter was
used to measure the Air Fuel Ratio at engine speeds ranging from 5,200 to 9,000 RPM.
The results showed that the Paper Oiled Air Filter produced the best overall
performance, with an average power of 8.28 HP, an average torque of 8.95 Nm, and
an average AFR of 14.90. The foam air filter produced an average power of 8.00 HP,
an average torque of 8.81 Nm, and an average AFR of 14.91, while the stainless steel
air filter produced an average power of 7.90 HP, an average torque of 8.63 Nm, and an
average AFR of 14.92. These findings indicate that the Paper Oiled Air Filter provides
the most optimal engine performance for the motorcycle y 115 in its original factory
configuration. This study contributes scientific evidence to support the selection of
appropriate air filters based on engine characteristics and may serve as a reference for
future studies involving different air filter types, intake system modifications, and fuel
management strategies.
