Abstract

The rapid growth of automatic motorcycles in Indonesia has increased the use of the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) system due to its ability to provide smooth and continuous gear ratio changes. One of the key components affecting vehicle performance is the drive pulley, particularly its inclination angle, which influences transmission ratio changes, torque distribution, acceleration, and top speed. This study aims to analyze the effect of variations in the drive pulley inclination angle on the top speed and acceleration of a Honda Scoopy 110 cc ESP motorcycle and to determine the pulley angle that provides the optimum performance. This research employed a quantitative experimental method. The tested pulley inclination angles were 15°, 13.8°, and 13.5°, while other variables, including roller weight, fuel type, tire pressure, and vehicle condition, were kept constant. Data were collected using a chassis dynamometer (dynotest) to measure engine power and torque, while acceleration tests were conducted under controlled testing conditions. The results indicate that variations in the drive pulley inclination angle significantly affect the motorcycle's performance characteristics. A smaller pulley angle tends to increase top speed, whereas a larger angle provides better initial acceleration. Based on the experimental results, the 13.8° pulley angle produced the best balance between top speed and acceleration. This study is expected to serve as a reference for optimizing CVT performance and as a foundation for future research involving additional variables, such as roller weight, secondary spring stiffness, and V-belt type. Keywords: Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), drive pulley, pulley inclination angle, top speed, acceleration.
