Abstract
The high use of online games among adolescents may increase the risk of developing online game addiction tendencies. This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-control and loneliness with online game addiction tendencies among students at SMAN X East Jakarta.
This study employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive correlational design. The participants consisted of 94 students selected using a quota sampling technique. Data were collected using Likert-scale questionnaires and analyzed using Spearman’s Rho correlation and multiple linear regression.
The results showed a significant negative relationship between self-control and online game addiction tendencies (r = -0.314; p < 0.05), as well as a significant positive relationship between loneliness and online game addiction tendencies (r = 0.303; p < 0.05). Simultaneously, self-control and loneliness had a significant effect on online game addiction tendencies, contributing 11.6% of the variance (R² = 0.116). Self-control was identified as the most dominant predictor of online game addiction tendencies.
