Abstract

ABSTRACT
The heat sealing process is a method of joining two aluminum foil surfaces by applying heat and dwell time to produce a strong bond. This study aims to analyze the effects of heat sealing temperature and dwell time on the seal strength and microstructure of aluminum foil joints, determine the contribution of each process parameter to seal strength, and identify the optimal combination of parameters that produces the highest seal strength. The study was conducted by varying the heat sealing temperature and dwell time while maintaining a constant sealing pressure. The heat-sealed specimens were tested using a Universal Testing Machine (UTM), and the resulting data were analyzed to evaluate the effects of the process parameters on seal strength and the microstructure of the joints. The results show that increasing the heat sealing temperature improves the seal strength up to an optimum condition, after which the seal strength decreases when the sealing temperature and dwell time exceed the optimal range. Heat sealing temperature and dwell time make significant contributions to seal strength. Microstructural observations indicate that higher sealing temperatures produce a more homogeneous heat-sealed region, reduce the visibility of the embossed pattern, and promote more complete melting of the sealant layer, thereby improving the quality of the joint.
