Abstract
Cahyo Eko Waluyo, Student ID Number 41182911220079, Islamic Religious Education Study Program, Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universitas Islam 45 Bekasi.
This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic study gatherings (pengajian) in improving religious tolerance in Cibuntu Village, Cibitung District, Bekasi Regency, and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, interviews with religious leaders, mosque administrators, and congregation members, as well as documentation. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive analysis model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.
The findings reveal that pengajian plays a significant role in enhancing religious tolerance through the internalization of Islamic values that emphasize mutual respect, appreciation of differences, and harmonious social interaction. These values are conveyed through religious lectures, discussions, and exemplary conduct by religious leaders. The role of pengajian is reflected in several indicators of tolerance, including accepting differences, respecting others' rights, establishing positive social relationships, and maintaining harmony within the community. Supporting factors include active participation of the congregation, the competence of religious leaders, cooperation between religious figures and local government, and a conducive social environment. Meanwhile, the main obstacles are the spread of misinformation on social media, differences in educational backgrounds and understanding among community members, and the limited participation of some residents in religious activities.
In conclusion, pengajian serves not only as a medium for strengthening religious understanding but also as an effective instrument for fostering religious tolerance within a pluralistic society. Through continuous religious guidance and collaboration among various stakeholders, pengajian contributes to creating a peaceful, harmonious, and mutually respectful community in Cibuntu Village.
