Abstract
ABSTRACT
IMPROVING READ ALOUD SKILLS USING ILLUSTRATED STORIES IN INDONESIA LANGUAGE LESSONS FOR SECOND GRADE STUDENTS AT SDN PENGASINAN IX BEKASI CITY
Tiara Nanda, 41182109220058. This research was motivated by the low reading-aloud ability of second-grade students at SDN Pengasinan IX, Bekasi City, in Indonesian language lessons. This study aimed to improve the reading-aloud ability of second-grade students at SDN Pengasinan IX, Bekasi City, through the use of picture story media.
The research method used was Classroom Action Research, conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of this study were 26 second-grade students at SDN Pengasinan IX, Bekasi City. Data were collected through tests, observations, and documentation. The data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive and qualitative descriptive techniques.
The results showed that the use of picture story media could improve students’ reading-aloud ability. In Cycle I, the average score was 80 with a classical mastery percentage of 61%. After improvements were made in Cycle II, the average score increased to 84 with a classical mastery percentage of 96%. This improvement shows that picture story media was able to enhance students’ pronunciation, intonation, fluency, and clarity of voice.
