Abstract

High-strength concrete is a construction material with a compressive strength
exceeding 41.4 MPa and is widely used in structures requiring high strength and
durability. The use of large amounts of cement in high-strength concrete increases
production costs and carbon emissions. One alternative to reduce cement
consumption while utilizing solid waste is the use of waste glass powder as a
pozzolanic additive. This study aims to analyze the effect of adding waste glass
powder on the compressive strength and splitting tensile strength of high-strength
concrete and to determine its optimum percentage of use. This study employed a
laboratory experimental method using high-strength concrete with a target
compressive strength (f'c) of 42 MPa. Waste glass powder passing through a No.
200 sieve (0.075 mm) was added to the concrete mixture at proportions of 5%, 10%,
and 15% by weight of cement. Testing was conducted at 28 days, including
compressive strength and splitting tensile strength tests in accordance with SNI and
ASTM standards. The results showed that the addition of waste glass powder
improved the mechanical properties of high-strength concrete. The highest
compressive strength was achieved with the 15% variation, reaching 48.7 MPa,
representing an 8.90% increase compared to normal concrete. Meanwhile, the
highest splitting tensile strength was obtained with the 10% variation, reaching 4.0
MPa, representing a 17.81% increase compared to normal concrete. Based on these
two parameters, the optimum percentage of waste glass powder is 10% by weight
of cement, as it provides a balanced improvement in both compressive strength and
splitting tensile strength. The findings indicate that waste glass powder has the
potential to be utilized as a pozzolanic additive to enhance the performance of high
strength concrete while supporting sustainable construction practices.
